Microsoft aquires 'Xbox Gold' domains

4.5
Microsoft has registered at least 16 domains which revolve around the 'Xbox Gold' name.

The latest series of purchases date from February 23, with the purchase of the XboxGold.com domain.

Sources report that Microsoft has filed complaints over owned domains including XboxGold.org and Xbox-Gold.com.

The list of domains bought by Microsoft include the following:
XboxGold.biz
XboxGold.com.co
XboxGold.us
XboxGold.at
XboxGold.ch
XboxGold.jp
XboxGold.mx
XboxGold.ru
XboxGold.tw
XboxGold.fr

At this time, it is unclear as to exactly what Microsoft is planning regarding Xbox Gold. It could be Microsoft simply protecting its brand.
Microsoft's Xbox LIVE Gold subscription service is often referred to as Xbox Gold. So could Microsoft could be planning on making a name switch for its online service as we head into the next gen Xbox?

Dior I wonder why they won't these name bucause it is unlikely that they will use them

Security purposes, to make sure people don't take the domains and try to act like the official site.

What I don't get is, people haven't even tried to use these yet, why do this now? And if somebody made fake ones like this, I'm pretty sure it would get shut down pretty fast or look un-legit.

TakeTheDamnPiLL They are not going to do anything with them.

How do you know that?

Because M$ would only buy one domain

Yeah basically, i don't see them using a completely different domain and especially this many.

Axe I see that it looks like we are paying for gold again... -_-

It's microsoft. They like their money...

Hey, why not man? If you could make that kind of money wouldnt you? The more money they make the more they can invest back into their products which will only make them better. A business is a business, microsoft being massively successful in what it does, so ofc it likes our money, without it microsoft wouldnt be what it is today. It does what it has to, making extra money where it can, and well why wouldnt you as a business.

Exactly, the only reason they make a lot of money is because they give us good quality products in return.

Even They are just preventing others from using them, I highly doubt they are doing something special with them..

Actually that also makes sense, I could see some scammers setting up these domains and charging for 'gold'. It's a possible solution, (I don't see them using these either)

Yeah i agree.

I'm actually guessing its true, why else make these when they already have Xbox.com ?

Just in case i guess.
