Overwatch 2's Season 9 began today on February 13 and introduced a brand-new system for Competitive in addition to making major changes to health and healing. All heroes had their total HP increased by varying percentages and were also given a passive healing ability that was previously limited to Support heroes. These were pretty controversial changes when first announced, but Blizzard hopes that a new meta in Season 9 will encourage a faster style of play thanks to DPS heroes, in particular, not needing to rely on the healing abilities of their Support counterparts as much. However, another change has caught the attention of many Overwatch 2 fans.
Season 9 increased the size of most damage-dealing projectiles, resulting in larger hitboxes in many scenarios. Overwatch 2 already had more lenient hitboxes compared to other FPS games like Counter-Strike, so some players are dissatisfied with the increased leniency of Season 9's projectiles. Twitter user and Overwatch 2 streamer GetQuakedOn posted a video showing how easy it is to land shots with Mercy's pistol following the new update. In the video, he places his crosshair almost a full body width away from a Soldier 76 dummy, yet his bullets still connect. The new change doesn't only apply to Mercy, as other users have posted similar videos of Sojourn, Hanzo, and others that showcase their increased projectile sizes. However, to be fair, the videos show players aiming at stationary bots, so the change could feel less drastic in a real match.

The sizes of most damage-dealing projectiles have been increased
This results in larger hitboxes in many, but not all, scenarios
It seems that this change is likely targeted at Overwatch 2 players who struggle with aiming by helping them feel more satisfaction during gunfights. The projectile size changes will certainly allow users to land more shots, but it's unclear how this change will end up being received by higher-skilled Overwatch 2 players, who initially seem to be quite frustrated. If this develops into a contentious issue, Overwatch 2 will likely want to get any major gameplay problems sorted out sooner rather than later, seeing that qualifiers for the new Overwatch Championship Series begin later this month.
If they haven't already, Overwatch 2 fans can download the new 38 GB patch now. Season 9 includes plenty more additions, including a rework to Pharah and an Eldritch Horror-themed battle pass.
Fans can also look forward to Overwatch 2's crossover event with Cowboy Bebop, which is set to launch later in Season 9. A teaser suggested that Cassidy might be the main character of the event, with some speculating that he will receive a Spike Spiegel skin.
