An update to Dragon's Dogma 2's Steam page that lists a "free on demand" product could indicate that a playable demo is going to be released in the near future.

Although most developers nowadays seem uninterested in releasing demos for their games (unless you count timed trials like the kind that are offered with PlayStation Plus Premium), Capcom is one of the few developers left who consistently have demos prepared for most of its big releases.

We've seen this in the past with Resident Evil, Devil May Cry, Monster Hunter Rise, and pretty much every big game that Capcom has, and it looks like that's going to continue with Dragon's Dogma 2. As pointed out by Redditor CannedBeanofDeath on the Dragon's Dogma subreddit and originally spotted on SteamDB, the sequel's Steam page was recently updated to add a new package type.

Taking a closer look at the update, which was added three days and marked as an "unknown app" on SteamDB, reveals that the new bit of content added will be "Free on Demand". That means that whatever is going to be released soon will be free to download for players, which very likely points to a playable demo being made available soon.

The unknown app isn't specifically said to be something to do with Dragon's Dogma 2, but it was updated at the same time as the game's page was and noted in the same changelist, which makes it pretty clear that it's to do with Dragon's Dogma.

Considering Dragon's Dogma 2 is only a month away from launching, it seems likely that we'll hear about the potential playable demo in the near future. Capcom's most recent big release, Resident Evil 4, also had a demo that went live a few weeks before the game's release, so it seems likely that this will be the case here as well.

While it doesn't come as much of a surprise that Dragon's Dogma 2 might be getting a demo considering Capcom's long-running track record with them, it is nice to know that we could get a chance to try the game out for ourselves while we all wait for the full release.
