Rumor - Next gen consoles may allow developers to self patch games

4.7
The giant issues that stem from the current generation of consoles if that EACH time a developer wants to publish a new patch they are required to submit it through the hardware makers internal QA department. While this at first implies better quality overall what happened was up to two month wait times for game NOT published by AAA studios. A example of this being that a CoD patch would be pushed through in the length of a week while a lesser known and played game like Phantasy Star Universe was plagued with month plus wait times for the patch to reach players.

The entire process means it is quite expensive to publish patches on these platforms. The rumor going around is that on the PS4 and the next xbox developers will be able to self-publish patches due to the devices both having been built with the well established PC x86 architecture. Keep checking back for details on their rumors here at TheTechGame!

TopNotchKiNG Most people don't know it yet, but there will be a Minecraft: Xbox 720 Edition. With the advancements in console hardware, the new consoles will be built 80% More like a pc instead of an actual "console". This being so, it will allow more capabilities to the developers, they will be able to publish updates as often as they want, thus allowing the speee of updates to come quicker. The new consoles will be built like PCs so less pc elements will have to be converted over to console. (Ex. The Switcher 2) 4J Studios will be able to publish same-day updates with the pc version of Minecraft. The two platforms will be closer than ever, and mod support along with texture packs will be a most definite feature.

4J Studio's don't develop the PC version, The PC version will always be 6+Months ahead of the console version

Yeah, 4J only deals with the 360 version. And thank god for the PC versions quick updates.

Mazur looking back on previous games that have been hacked to crap, patches are the best thing for a game. it's not fun to play with a whole bunch of cheaters...

Yea, it's sad how many people can't play the game legit.

Last time I checked, this website supported modding and hacking. You should leave and not come back.

Think again. This website doesn't want to associate with hackers anymore, and has drifted off that path for a more professional approach. Next time you tell someone off, at least have the facts ready.

Yin This really needs to happen. Waiting two weeks to a month for a patch is ridiculous. It could help fix games before people lose interest in the product.

It is, I really hope this is added. It will create more freedom for the game developers.

Yeah this would be really nice for fixing game-ruining bugs and glitches!
