Baldur's Gate 3 Player Adds New Paladin Oath Subclasses

3.6
If you play as a paladin in Baldur's Gate 3, you'll have three subclasses to choose from. These determine the spells and abilities open to you as you level up, but most importantly, they dictate the code you'll have to adhere to so you can keep your powers.

Now, Baldur's Gate 3 players have added three more paladin subclasses to the game. Two are taken straight from Dungeons & Dragons, perfect for anyone who missed out on their preferred oath in the base game. However, another is a custom class, inspired by fellow fantasy RPG, Pillars of Eternity.

These subclasses are created by Nexus Mods user Havsglimt, and are available to download now. The oaths you have to choose from so far are:

Oath of Redemption (also credited to user Celes)
Oath of Conquest
Oath of Bleak Walkers

Dungeons & Dragons fans will immediately recognise the first two from tabletop. Right now, none of them have unique oathbreaking rules, borrowing from other oaths in the game. However, the modders are working on this, so they should soon provide more roleplaying opportunities too, as well as giving you a different paladin build in combat.

Oath of the Bleak Walkers is totally unique since it comes from Pillars of Eternity. It's intended to act as an "evil" paladin option, since the base game's choices are very much aimed at those roleplaying as someone who's good-aligned - for the most part, at least.

This is far from the only series of mods that expands the base game. As we covered last year, another modder added more than 50 new races to the game, letting you play as everything from a goblin to an aasimar.

A Baldur's Gate 3 developer previously said that the team hadn't ruled out adding new races down the line in an official update, but since Larian is moving away from the series soon, that's probably not happening now. As revealed last month, Larian won't be making any expansions or sequels for Baldur's Gate 3. It's still working on updates, but we've been warned not to expect any new content in these.
