Xbox President Has Set Up A Team Focused On Gaming Preservation

4
Xbox President Sarah Bond has revealed in an email to Microsoft staff that she has set up a team dedicated to gaming preservation and backwards compatibility in preparation for the next Xbox console.

Although the last few years have been a little rough for Xbox with some big exclusives that misfired like Starfield and Halo Infinite, 2024 and beyond is already looking a lot brighter. Not only do we have exciting first-party games like Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, Avowed, and reportedly a near Gears of War, but Xbox has already started teasing its next console and what it sets out to do in the next generation.

Although we don't know too much about the next Xbox beyond the fact that it will reportedly feature the "biggest technological leap ever in a generation", a recent email from Xbox president Sarah Bond that was obtained and reported on by Windows Central has shed some light on what's being planned behind the scenes.

Xbox Will Continue To Push Backwards Compatibility

In the email, Bond, who became president of Xbox just a few months ago, starts off by celebrating the merging of Activision and Xbox and notes that everyone should feel excited about what's coming next. Bond then mentions the next Xbox and repeats her previous claims about it being the biggest leap in a generation

After confirming that Xbox is going to be focusing on "gaming AI" and how Xbox is now the number one place to play Diablo 4 after it launched on Xbox Game Pass, Bond reveals that a new team has been formed that is "dedicated to gaming preservation", something that Bond notes is "important to all of us at Xbox and the industry itself" and that the team is committed to bringing its library to future generations.

"We have formed a new team dedicated to game preservation, important to all of us at Xbox and the industry itself. We are building on our strong history of delivering backwards compatibility to our players, and we remain committed to bringing forward the amazing library of Xbox games for future generations of players to enjoy."

Xbox has always been praised for its commitment to backwards compatibility when compared to PlayStation and Nintendo, so it's comforting to know that it'll continue to focus on it for the next console generation - especially when we're in an age where demos can be ripped out of your hands and entire games can offline at a moment's notice.
