The first indication of the game's existence emerged online just recently, via an early April report from Insider Gaming's Tom Henderson. Henderson reported that the title in question is a rougelite helmed by Evil Empire, a French developer best known as the warden of Dead Cells, for which it created a plethora of post-launch content since 2019. Henderson also claimed that the game will be called The Rogue Prince of Persia.
The Rogue Prince of Persia Reveal Is Reportedly Imminent
The insider has now taken to social media to share some additional availability details about the project, stating that The Rogue Prince of Persia will be officially revealed on Wednesday, April 10. The game is then scheduled to be released on May 14, Henderson wrote in a recent tweet. His original report on the matter said that the rumored roguelite is planned to launch in Steam Early Access, thus ending the five-year tradition of Ubisoft games skipping Valve's storefront on release.
An early access debut rules out the possibility of the game reaching Sony's consoles on day one. Namely, the PlayStation Store does not allow early access releases. On the other hand, the Xbox ecosystem does have a Game Preview program, but there are currently no indications that The Rogue Prince of Persia will be making use of it.
As per Henderson's early April reporting, the game itself has been in development for the majority of Evil Empire's existence, having been greenlit circa 2019. Its art direction is said to be heavily influenced by bandes dessinées, also known as Franco-Belgian comics. Similar to Dead Cells, The Rogue Prince of Persia is expected to receive a lot of post-launch support, though it is unclear how much of its DLC will be sold as opposed to given away for free.
Assuming this leak pans out, Ubisoft will end up announcing and releasing two Prince of Persia games since revealing The Sands of Time remake in 2020. And while that particular game still isn't expected to see the light of day anytime soon, the franchise itself should have no problems staying relevant for the foreseeable future, both due to this rumored roguelite and Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown's ambitious content roadmap.
Reveal is April 10.
