Activision says it banned 27,000 CoD accounts over the weekend

Activision claims to have banned over 27,000 Call of Duty accounts over the weekend.

The company said improved detection systems and fresh security updates are helping it root out bad actors, and that players should expect further ban waves.

The latest wave followed last week’s launch of Modern Warfare 3 and Warzone Season 3, and coincided with a free multiplayer trial which ran from April 4-8.

“#TeamRICOCHET identified and banned over 27,000 accounts over the weekend through a series of upgraded detection systems,” Activision said in a statement (via Charlie Intel).

“The team is progressing on a new set of security updates and anticipates more ban waves to come.”

Modern Warfare 3 and Warzone Season 3 includes six new core 6v6 multiplayer maps, with four available since launch and two arriving mid-season.

Warzone Season 3’s headline addition is the return of fan favourite map Rebirth Island alongside Resurgence mode, which let players respawn as long as one of their teammates is still alive.

Elsewhere, Zombies added a new story mission, a fresh Dark Aether Rift, and a new Warlord in the form of artillery and demolitions expert Rainmaker.

A Modern Warfare 3 dataminer recently uncovered what appears to be an upcoming multiplayer map titled ‘Get High’.

Rather than being a standard Call of Duty multiplayer map, it’s a vaporwave environment offering parkour-based gameplay which sees competitors racing to reach the top of its structures.

Samfs Good to see that they're banning these scum people, but hey, there are a million more left to ban!

Seems they banned a lot of folk who just got camos unlocked, which seems pretty harsh imo...

Yes, that sucks.
I don't mind people who get camos unlocked or their rank maxed.
I'm talking about those blatant cheaters who go around killing people across the map, aimbotting, wallhacking...

Camos in COD are equivalent to money in GTA 5 though to be fair. It's what keeps players grinding and the game active. From a consumer stand point it might seem harmless but from a financial perspective it makes perfect sense.

Now as far as perma ban, that is a little harsh but at the same time the last cod I played was mw2019 and they seem to have crossed their t's and dotted their i's pretty well with their ToS. It's like 5 pages long and multiple different ones you have to accept so it's hard for people to play the "but I didn't know" routine.
