In a new post on X (formerly Twitter), Bleszinski said, "Please stop asking me to bring back games that I don't have the rights to." He went on to say that the constant requests are "exhausting" and that he has "moved on." Bleszinski, however, did not specify which games fans were insisting make a return.
Many will know of Bleszinski for his work on the Gears of War franchise, with his contributions to the gaming industry spanning all the way back to the early nineties. The famed game developer rose to first started out at Epic Games in 1992, where he would go on to create the Gears of War franchise, the Unreal franchise, Bulletstorm, and many more.
While Epic Games no longer owns the rights to the Gears of War franchise, neither does Cliff Bleszinski. Back in 2014, Microsoft Studios announced it had acquired the rights to the franchise from Epic Games, including the rights to all existing and future games.
Cliff's Comments Come As Gears 6 Rumours Escalate
Bleszinski might be done talking about older games he no longer has the rights to, but arguably his most famous creation continues to live on.
The last entry in the Gears of War franchise was 2019's Gears 5, but a new report from The Verge's Tom Warren suggests a new Gears of War entry could be announced in the coming months. Warren discussed Microsoft's upcoming summer showcase, saying, "I understand this is set to take place on Sunday, June 9th, and Microsoft is currently planning to announce a new Gears of War game at the show."
Other journalists and industry insiders, such as Giant Bomb's Jeff Grubb, have also corroborated these rumours. "I will say, I've heard some stuff might be happening with Gears 6 this summer," Grubb said during the latest Kinda Funny Games podcast.
