Gamers have noticed that the implementation of profile avatars in the Epic Games Store was once listed as a priority despite the feature still not being a reality. Epic Games is a hugely popular company that is recognized as an industry leader in several areas. Epic has developed Unreal Engine, Fortnite, and continues to deliver many of its services through its own PC marketplace, but sometimes the Epic Games Store lacks features users enjoy on other platforms.

To be fair, there have been plenty of additions to Epic Games that keep players coming back. The introduction of many EA games to the Epic Games Store has users excited to continue playing great games, and this signals the continuous expansion of Epic Games' ecosystem. Although gamers weren't initially certain Epic would last when compared to Steam, the current status of the platform makes plenty confident that it isn't going anywhere, which is exactly why it is a little confusing when popular features like profile avatars don't show up.

A Reddit post by user VanceVibes shows that the profile avatar feature has been noted on Epic's Trello project listing board since February 2022, but has not been added. Considering how the Epic Games Store has grown steadily since 2022, with one of the biggest perks of the service being a massive list of free games for Epic users, it is surprising that this simple feature has not been introduced.

It's been over 2 years since they added it to the Trello board, and yet we still don't have profile avatars. Surely, it can't be that difficult to implement, can it?

It is possible that the inclusion of profile avatars has just become less of a priority, especially when considering how many different things Epic Games handles. Development on Unreal Engine and games like Fortnite may take up more priority than the smaller details of the Epic Games Store, even if improving the user experience of the Epic Games Store has been a recent priority.

Other gamers in the thread came together to agree on the idea that Epic Games is great as a launcher, but Steam seems to win when it comes to community-based features. This may be on purpose, as perhaps that the Epic games store was always intended to be just a storefront instead of a proper platform. Additionally, there could be plenty of gamers that wouldn't enjoy social platform features being introduced to the marketplace, which could be another reason that avatars are still missing after two years. Still, while some people surely think that the Epic Games Store and its impressive roster of free games is good as-is, others are continuing to wait for little touches like profile avatars to be introduced.
