Helldivers 2 might have spent most of the year so far as one of the most popular games on PlayStation and PC, but the last few days have proven that even the most beloved releases can fall from grace. Just a few days ago, PlayStation announced that PC players would be required to sign into a PlayStation Network account to play, claiming that it was for player protection and to help ban griefers.
As you can probably imagine, this has been an incredibly unpopular move with PC players, who have taken the fight to the game's Steam page and dropped it from a "Very Positive" rating to "Mostly Negative" with over 148,000 in the space of a few days. Although Helldivers 2 was originally going to require this sign-in from the start, its sudden reintroduction after several months is turning into a big problem for the game.
Refunds on Steam work - here is good guy Steam accepting simple, straightforward logic.

Although some players just don't like PlayStation turning around and requiring them to sign in to the PlayStation Network after nowhere, it does raise some legitimate problems for players in countries that don't have PSN. If PlayStation keeps the sign-in requirement and doesn't go back on it following the backlash, then Helldivers 2 will be basically unplayable on PC for anyone outside of the 60 countries that have PSN.
This has led to a lot of players requesting refunds for the game, despite many of them having hundreds of hours of playtime that exceed Steam's two-hour policy. It seems that in a case as drastic as this, though, Steam has decided to waive that limit since, as showcased by Redditor lockes5hadow, several players have reported being able to receive refunds from the platform even if they exceed the play limit.
It's not clear if all players are eligible for the refund, since some have shared on the subreddit that their request was denied, but it seems that at least a few Helldivers 2 fans are getting their money back for the game. Some players have claimed that opening a help ticket instead of using the refund function is what's most likely to work, while others suggest needing to request it more than once.
