The new mode is just the latest creation from the Forge Falcons, one of the Halo community's more prolific Forge groups. Recently, the same group teased its Helldivers 2-inspired Halo mode, with a reveal trailer showing off a large map that players will drop into to complete various objectives. That mode has a release date set for June 28, although it's unclear if it will get the same treatment from 343 as the group's Zombies mode.
In Halo Infinite's new PvE mode, Survive the Undead, players must outlast wave after wave of an alien horde as they earn points to purchase upgrades, perks, or mystery box spins. The mode has two maps, one based on Call of Duty: World at War's Nacht Der Untoten and another called Installation of the Dead. Survive the Undead is part of 343's Combat Workshop program, which the developer uses to test new modes or maps through Infinite's official matchmaking. This means players won't need to grapple with the game's server browser and can instead simply queue into a match until June 4, when Survive the Undead will be rotated out of matchmaking. As usual, 343 is looking for community feedback to further refine the impressive community-made mode.
The Forge Falcons also plan to release their new battle royale mode on May 31. Although rumors from years ago suggested that Halo Infinite could get an official battle royale at some point, this seems to no longer be the case. Fortunately for Halo fans, the Forge community has filled that gap. The Forge Falcons' next battle royale project features three maps and presumably builds on the mechanics seen in the group's first battle royale mode.
In terms of official content, Halo Infinite continues to receive monthly updates. The last update's most notable addition was The Exchange, a new section of the in-game store that allows users to purchase cosmetic items by using a new form of currency that's free to earn.
Halo Infinite's monthly updates have replaced the seasonal format seen earlier in the game's lifespan. Now, various Operations are rotated in and out, which offer reward tracks with cosmetic items, XP boosts, and in-game currency. It's unclear what Halo Infinite's next update contains, but as usual, fans are hoping for more developer-made content or impressive fan-made creations like the new Survive the Undead mode.
