In recent years, PlayStation has been actively ramping up its efforts to find game development partners in nascent markets. The company launched "Hero Projects" in countries like China, India, and most recently, Africa to discover and fund promising game developers. Thanks to the program, games like Lost Soul Aside have been able to get off the ground. The PlayStation Partner program is no different, supporting indie developers via loaning them PS5 devkits, allowing them to self-publish on the PlayStation Store, and helping market their games on a larger scale.
The PlayStation Partners program has yielded excellent games, like PowerWash Simulator, Kena: Bridge of Spirits, and Returnal, the latter leading to PlayStation acquiring developer Housemarque. Now, Shadowfall Studio has announced on Twitter that it's the latest PlayStation Partner, and that it will launch its "next big game" on PS5. Located in Istanbul, the studio is working on a co-op action game codenamed Project Daeron. Shadowfall Studio's official website offers more insight into the game, stating that it's based on Turkish mythology and features a "villain protagonist" who will fight shamans and, occasionally, gods.

The game's story is designed around two-player co-op, but single-player functionality will also be available, possibly with a friendly AI character. Gameplay-wise, Shadowfall Studio claims that Project Daeron will have a "fast-paced, hybrid combat system" which allows the player to string together magical and melee abilities simultaneously, as well as a rune crafting system to "enhance" the player's arsenal. The website also mentions a "complex AI system" that seemingly supports both offensive and stealth-driven approaches to gameplay. From the images provided, Project Daeron appears to be a first-person game.
The budding studio has received a substantial amount of attention thanks to its PlayStation partnership announcement, and confirmed a gameplay reveal trailer for Project Daeron in the coming days. Many PlayStation fans are excited to learn more about the action title thanks to its unique Turkish mythology setting, which has rarely been explored in video games. The first-person magic-melee hybrid gameplay also seems interesting, possibly echoing the likes of Avowed's magic casting systems. Whatever it may look like, PlayStation bringing Shadowfall Studio aboard as a partner clearly speaks to the potential of Project Daeron, and fans should definitely keep an eye on the newfound studio.
