Inspired by Call of Duty: Zombies, the mode was created within Forge - a level editor provided by Bungie and 343 Industries - by community members working under the name The Forge Falcons. The mode includes a Pack-A-Punch machine for custom weapons, 3 perk machines, unique boss waves, and more within two maps, including a remade version of the Nacht der Untoten stage, and it’s available to play now on Xbox and PC until June 4.
Since The Forge Falcons’ thrilling mode is now available, a handful of video game-geared social media accounts have been sharing the PvE fun with the community. The reception has primarily been positive, and it's clear the COD event has convinced wayward players to reinstall the shooter to experience it for themselves.
It’s natural for players to drop in and out of shooters, or even uninstall the game to leave space for newer titles or take a break if gameplay hype dies. However, Survive the Undead has motivated a return to form, including one X user who admitted they had taken a break from the FPS since 2022, saying “As someone who hasn’t played infinite since my boys quit in 2022 how do I find this map? I love zombies and I’m downloading this rn to give it a go.” Another user was also convinced, stating “Wow Halo might be worth installing for once.”
The mode not only unlocked a wave of praise, applauding the chaotic fun and the rigorous work put into making the maps, but it also made others ponder a Flood Firefight, with one user saying “This looks amazing and I’m super excited for it. But this does make me wish we got an official flood firefight or some sort of flood pve mode. At least MCC got flood firefight.”
Additionally, a few Halo players admitted the mode looked inviting but raised concerns over the shooter losing its form, expressing “I know that probably this is great and a lot of fun but it’s not for me, I play halo because I don’t like COD, now MS have both and I fear we keep losing more of what halo is.”
Thankfully, players have another mode to look forward to from The Forge Falcons because a Helldivers 2 mode, called ‘Helljumpers’, is in the pipeline to debut next month on June 28. However, instead of being added to matchmaking, this themed event will be available to play through Custom Games.
