CDPR Officially Has No Devs Working On Cyberpunk 2077

Cyberpunk 2077's ongoing development is no more. No developers at CD Projekt Red are working on the game anymore, with everyone now moved over to either its sequel or The Witcher series.

This was just confirmed by CD Projekt Red's investor relations page, which has shared its latest breakdown of how many developers are working on each of its products. Here, it's revealed that the bulk of CDPR's developers are now working on Project Polaris, the codename for The Witcher 4.

As you can see in the graph shared by CDPR, 17 developers were working on Cyberpunk 2077 in February of this year. However, as of April 30, all of them have been moved to other projects. If they aren't going directly from Cyberpunk 2077 to its sequel, Project Orion, then it's likely that they're now on The Witcher 4, since that's taking up most of the studio's time right now.

This won't come as a huge surprise to those who have been following Cyberpunk 2077's updates closely. Version 2.1 was always intended to be the last content update for the game, and that dropped last December. This added some fan-requested features, like a portable radio and a usable metro system. Since the devs weren't pulled from the game immediately, we did get some bug fixes after this. But now, it looks like development is well and truly over, and the game will stay the way it is for good.

It's good news for modders at least, as you'll no longer have to deal with updates breaking your modded playthroughs. Now, you should be safe to mod as much as you want, which is handy when Cyberpunk 2077 is one of the most popular games over on Nexus Mods.

It's also safe to say that Cyberpunk 2077 received more ongoing support than many of us were expecting. Back in 2020, it was hard to imagine that the buggy RPG prone to frequent crashes would ever redeem itself, but it very clearly has in the eyes of many. In fact, in 2023, it was nominated in more categories at The Game Awards than its launch year, thanks to the Phantom Liberty expansion.

Now, we'll just have to wait and see when CDPR is ready to show off anything relating to the sequel, Project Orion. This entered the concept stage earlier this year, so we probably won't get to see anything from it anytime soon.

Cyberpunk 2077 would have been a lot better if they never released it for last gen those consoles can't perform as good which is why it didn't do way better than they should have! Great game overall tons of fun!
