FF7 Remake Part 3 Will Provide “Even More Freedom” in Combat

3.8
In spite of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth’s universal critical acclaim, the open world action RPG hasn’t met Square Enix’s sales targets. Work on the remake trilogy’s final instalment, however, is continuing, and though we’re obviously still a ways off from its release, details on it continue to drip through.

For instance, speaking during a recently uploaded episode of Inside Square Enix, members of the Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth development team touched on what they were hoping to deliver with its sequel. Interestingly enough, for battle director Teruki Endo, the aim is to provide “even more freedom” for the players with the combat as well as the core gameplay loop at large, though he did not go into exactly what form that will end up taking (via Automaton Media).

Meanwhile, director Naoki Hamaguchi also went on to add that the development team is hoping that the trilogy’s final instalment will deliver “a different kind of gameplay experience” from Final Fantasy 7 Remake and Rebirth, and that the team is hoping to finish the game’s development as soon as possible.

Earlier this year, producer Yoshinori Kitase said that the plan was to wrap up development in three years, so if things go to plan, we might get the final game in the Final Fantasy 7 Remake trilogy at some point in 2027.
