As explained in a new blog post, EA changed the name because it wanted to emphasise that you and your companions, not your enemies, "are the heart of this new experience". That being said, the once titular Dread Wolf "still has an important part in this tale".
"We changed the name as the original title didn't show just how strongly we feel about our new heroes, their stories, and how you'll need to bring them together to save all of Thedas," BioWare writes, explaining that throughout the game, you'll recruit seven different companions who you'll work alongside to protect the Veil, hence the name.
In 2021, BioWare revealed our first look at Dragon Age 4 via concept art, giving us a glimpse into how different the sequel will be in aesthetics from Inquisition and other past games.
It wouldn't be until a year later in 2022 that EA would finally give the sequel a name - Dreadwolf. It didn't - and still doesn't - have a release date, but BioWare revealed at the time that it was in the "middle of production".
Just last month, insider Jeff Grubb claimed once again that Dreadwolf - now Veilguard - will be launching this year, just two years after being properly announced. Allegedly, the team is "happy" with the state of the game, and the summer showcase will reveal "all of the details".
We don't have long left to wait now before we get our first look at Veilguard in action, as the gameplay reveal will be held just next Tuesday.
Exciting news, #DragonAge fans! Join us on June 11 for the first official gameplay reveal.
