Days Gone Creator "Worked On The Sequel For Weeks"

3.3
Ever since Days Gone rolled its credits, post-apocalyptic lovers have been eager for a continuation into its freaker-invested open world, especially due to its cliffhanger ending. While critics bashed the Bend Studios title because of technical issues and its initial slow pace, many PlayStation fans couldn't get enough, and over the past few years, have even gone as far as creating a petition for Sony to consider making Days Gone 2.

Unfortunately, all of the hopes and dreams for a sequel went straight out the window, despite the game selling around 9 million copies, overtaking Ghost of Tsushima's 8 million sales. Days Gone writer and creator, John Garvin, has been consistently vocal about the disappointment and frustration he has faced, along with its game director Jeff Ross. In a recent social media post, Garvin outlines how far he had actually gone with the doomed sequel.

In a post on Twitter/X, Days Gone director and creator John Garvin posted a reply to a question regarding whether he had ever pitched a sequel to the game to PlayStation management. Gavin said that before Sony let him go after Days Gone was made, Jeff Ross had reportedly another writer lined up to take his place, but, ultimately, Garvin had already a lot of ideas in the pipeline for Days Gone 2 that included "a script, outline, map and concept art" all prepared for the next adventure with its protagonist, Deacon St. John,

Garvin also states that the "full intention of there being a trilogy (NOT just a sequel)" was what the team had hoped for and, surprisingly, even though Sony had let Garvin go not long after Days Gone's release, he still holds a small thread of hope for a sequel but that the decision would be up to Sony. "... Never say never… management at Sony could have a change of heart and bring me and @JakeRocket back into the fold to do a sequel … I’m not holding my breath" tweeted Garvn, "though I gotta say, I had a full outline for the sequel, and world map that expanded the game, all done."

As someone who reviewed and loved Days Gone, even the slightest idea that this could happen would be amazing, but the likelihood is, sadly, extremely low to zero at this point. To make the situation clearer, Jeff Ross shot down any rumors about a sequel by previously saying "It will never happen. Sony higher ups like Hermen were never fans, so you won't hear about it at the PlayStation State of Play today or ever." and that "this is a case of canceled for now versus canceled forever."
