Battlefield 2042 Reveals Dead Space Crossover

3.8
EA's futuristic military shooter Battlefield 2042 has announced a crossover with sister franchise Dead Space as part of a new limited-time event. Despite making a respectable comeback from its disappointing 2021 launch, Battlefield 2042 is currently in its final season, Season 7, as EA is looking toward the next game in its storied shooter franchise.

One of 2023's most revered games was EA Motive's ground-up remake of the horror classic Dead Space. Modernizing the original's dated visuals, the remake brought in a fresh audience 15 years after the release of the first game. One of 2023's most celebrated games next to the likes of Capcom's Resident Evil 4 remake, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, Alan Wake 2, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, Baldur's Gate 3, and others, Dead Space was disappointingly snubbed from the Game of the Year category at The Game Awards.

Now, as Battlefield 2042 begins to wind down in its final season, EA has announced a major crossover event with Dead Space. Beginning on July 9 and running until July 16, the Battlefield 2042 X Dead Space event will add a limited-time game mode named Outbreak, which will see players band together to survive against a horde of dangerous zombie-like enemies.

Like with any Battlefield 2042 event, players can earn free cosmetics by playing the limited-time mode. Outbreak players can unlock a new weapon skin, weapon charm, player card, and a tag, all likely Dead Space-themed. The crown jewel of the event is a Dead Space cosmetic bundle purchasable in Battlefield 2042's in-game shop for 2,200 BFC. The pack contains a legendary specialist outfit named Marked Man, which is presumably the Isaac Clarke-inspired skin shown off in the trailer, a set of three legendary weapon skins, and a collection of smaller items. This is arguably one of the more consequential events Battlefield 2042 has hosted over its nearly three-year run; it's a shame it's coming toward the very end of the game's life.

Unfortunately for fans of the franchise, EA has recently canceled a remake of Dead Space's beloved sequel despite the praise and success of 2023's Dead Space remake. For now, Dead Space fans can look forward to the Battlefield 2042 event, as it's also the closest EA will likely ever get to making a modern multiplayer Dead Space experience. As for Battlefield 2042 fans, this Dead Space event seems like a solid sendoff as eyes turn toward EA's next Battlefield entry.

Why did they have to ruin Battlefield so by following industry trends? The previous games were good bc they immersed the player. There was no Santa Claus, Mr Beast, Predator or Darth Vader running around the mountain villages of northern Algeria. It's so damn dumb and makes me turn the game off immediately.
