Cyberpunk 2077 Modder Is Working On An Impressive Multiplayer Mod

3.8
A lone modder is working on a multiplayer mod for Cyberpunk 2077, and recent playtest footage shows that the mod is incredibly impressive.

Cyberpunk 2077 had one of the most controversial launches in gaming history. After blowing fans away with the smash-hit RPG The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, CD Projekt Red set out on its next venture in Cyberpunk 2077. After multiple delays and setbacks, the futuristic RPG was released to the world in December 2020.

While at its core, Cyberpunk 2077 was a phenomenal game, it was riddled with bugs, glitches, and poor performance on the last generation of consoles. It was eventually removed from the PlayStation Store and players received no questions asked refunds if they requested it. But CD Projekt Red would go on to turn its failure into one of the studio's biggest achievements through 4 years of hard work and patch updates.

Unfortunately, this massive setback meant that CD Projekt Red was forced to cancel the planned multiplayer mode for Cyberpunk 2077. And as the studio is now working on multiple other projects, including a sequel to Cyberpunk 2077, we'll never know what a multiplayer mode could have looked like.

Thankfully, a lone modder has set out on a mission to give the fans what they want and is working on a multiplayer mod known as CyberMP, and it's already impressing playtesters. In a new video from YouTuber JuiceHead, we get a great look at how the development of this mod is coming along.

In the video, JuiceHead shows off a lobby filled with 20 players. While there are no quests, races, or missions for players to complete together, there is a 2v2 deathmatch mode and the whole of Night City for players to explore together. Players can chat together, spawn in vehicles, and even mock use of mods such as spawning custom vehicles.

By the looks of it, this mod requires players to make their own entertainment, but it's still highly impressive. Of course, as it's developed by a lone modder, there's still plenty of work that needs to be done. JuiceHead says that he playtested the mod for two days and while there were frequent crashes on the first day, the creator smoothed things out drastically by the second day.

There's also the lack of character animations, as the game is first-person and isn't designed to be played with other real-life players. But the YouTuber says that they were playing on a build that was quite a few months old, and the creator has already started to implement actual animations for characters.

It could still be some time until this mod is released to the public, but you can support the creator on their Patreon or join the mod's Discord server to stay up to date.
