Marvel's Wolverine's Co-Narrative Director Leaves Insomniac Games

3.9
Associate Narrative Director for Insomniac Games' Wolverine project, Mary Kenney, has confirmed that she will be leaving the studio and joining The Witcher 3 developer CD Projekt Red. Kenney will be joining the studio as a senior writer for the upcoming sequel to Cyberpunk 2077, currently known as Project Orion.

In a new post on Linkedin, Kenney said that yesterday marked her first day as a senior writer for CD Projekt Red. "I can't wait to talk more about my project, I'm thrilled to be getting back into RPGs, and my team is talented, welcoming, and just flat-out cool. Here's to a new adventure," she said.

Insomniac Games is currently working on a new project based on the popular Marvel superhero, Wolverine. The PlayStation 5 exclusive was announced back in 2021 during a PlayStation Showcase event, but there's still no word on a release date. The title was, however, heavily leaked during a ransomware attack on the studio in December 2023.

Kenney's move to CD Projekt Red has sparked cause for concern, as many are now speculating that Marvel's Wolverine is "in trouble" after losing one of its lead writers. But, the more likely scenario is that, given how long the game has been in development, Marvel's Wolverine has wrapped things up on the narrative front.

As for Project Orion, CD Projekt Red is only just gearing up on the sequel's development, so it shouldn't come as much of a surprise that the studio is recruiting some top talent to get the next Cyberpunk game underway.

The ex-Insomniac Games writer has worked on numerous hit titles, such as Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales and Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart. But she will now be a writer "on a story-driven RPG, responsible for pitching storylines, writing dialogue and scenes, creating characters, and crafting quests on Project Orion," according to her Linkedin page.

CD Projekt Red currently has multiple titles and sequels in the works. After working hard for four years to turn Cyberpunk 2077 into the studio's biggest achievement, the Warsaw-based development studio (which has now also expanded to Boston for Project Orion) is working on a sequel to Cyberpunk 2077, The Witcher 4, a remake of the original Witcher, a brand-new standalone IP, and more.
