Halo 3 Player Notices Hidden Campaign Detail After 17 Years

3.4
An eagle-eyed Halo 3 player has noticed an awesome detail about the game's Tsavo Highway campaign mission, 17 years after its initial release. Halo 3 is a classic, so it's great to see new details uncovered in its impressive campaign.

When looking at the best Halo games, Bungie's third outing will inevitably always appear in the conversation near the top of the list. Despite its age, Halo 3 remains a joy to play, even without a modern remaster. Its presence in Halo: The Master Chief Collection means it's easy to pick up Halo 3 and find a match to this day, whether that be in its legendary multiplayer or campaign. Until recently, 343 Industries was still updating Halo 3 in The Master Chief Collection with new content, a testament to its enduring popularity.

Redditor shtevay shared the impressive detail, which can be found in the Halo 3 campaign mission, Tsavo Highway. At the very end of the level, players are able to look out into the distance. Among other things, players are able to spot the location where the next level, The Storm, takes place by looking through the scope of a sniper rifle. While it's a low-detail version of the level, it's cool to see that Bungie had planned for eagle-eyed Halo 3 players to be able to spot where they'd be headed next in the campaign.

You can see The Storm from the end of Tsavo Highway

According to other players in the thread, it's not the only secret Tsavo Highway holds. Early in the mission, players are able to see part of the previous mission, Crow's Nest, too, making Halo 3's campaign feel extremely interconnected from level to level, especially compared to all other Halo games. It was also pointed out that Bungie had to pull back on the ambition of Halo 3's campaign, although some of the remains of its plans remain in the game to this day. The Battle of Earth was planned to be a much larger part of the game, which could explain why The Storm seems to be so far away in the distance here.

While 343 Industries continues to update its most recent title, Halo Infinite, with a ton of new content, many fans of the series still pine for the nostalgic days of earlier Halo games. After all, it's difficult to replicate the early online days of Xbox Live, and Halo 2 and 3 were a big part of that experience. That's why many believe that it's time for Halo 3 Anniversary. With Halo: Combat Evolved and 2 receiving remasters on their 10th anniversaries, Halo 3 has long missed that deadline, but hope remains that 343 Industries will return to bring the game into the modern era. As of right now, it looks unlikely, but there's nothing wrong with having dreams.
