Fallout: London Won’t Work on EGS Copies of Fallout 4

3.9
GOG has recently confirmed that the upcoming Fallout 4 mod Fallout: London will not be playable with a copy bought on the Epic Games Store. This is the latest of several issues suffered by the high-profile Fallout 4 mod, which will create a DLC-sized Fallout adventure set in the English capital.

Revealed back in 2021, Fallout: London is currently being developed by Team FOLON, a non-profit modding group. After previous delays, the mod was supposed to come out in April 2024, but it was delayed after Bethesda’s Fallout 4 next-gen updates broke it. This was not the only issue faced by the modders, though, as the mod’s files were too big to be hosted on Nexus Mods, which prompted the team to decide on a Fallout: London release on GOG.

Now, Fallout: London is finally nearing its official release, but a GOG representative recently told VG247 that gamers who bought Fallout 4 on the Epic Games Store won’t be able to install the mod. This limitation is linked to Bethesda’s recent Fallout 4 updates, which are incompatible with the mod’s current build. According to the GOG representative, the mod will require a downgraded Fallout 4 copy. GOG currently allows gamers to roll back updates, and a workaround is “currently in progress” regarding Steam. Because of this, Fallout: London will only work with copies from both GOG and Steam.

Team FOLON has also previously indicated that it will not update Fallout: London to be compatible with the current version of Fallout 4 in the future. While this news may be disappointing for fans who own the EGS version of Fallout 4, it’s understandable considering that the project is run by a non-profit group and was almost complete when the update broke it.

While Fallout: London still has no official release date, it should be available “soon,” according to Team FOLON. The mod is essentially complete at this point and is currently waiting for the “final green light” from GOG. Hopefully, some way to play the game using the EGS version could be added soon, but there’s no guarantee that it will happen.

Unfortunately, gamers who only own Fallout 4 on consoles are in the same boat as the ones who have on the EGS. A few months ago, it was revealed that console players won’t have access to Fallout: London, as the mod will be around 30-40 GB in size, much bigger than what’s currently supported on consoles.
