Call Of Duty: Black Ops 6 Uses Traditional Score Streak System

4.5
The campaign promoting Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 is off to a resounding start, from the commendable propaganda marketing to the round of interviews from developers to give fans some insight into the creation process. Round-based Zombies are back and better than ever according to Treyarch’s Associate Design Director, but there’s one important switch to score streaks that’s dividing the community.

Despite dataminers previously tipping fans that COD would be collaborating with Marvel’s Deadpool, to celebrate the release of Deadpool & Wolverine at the end of the month, it was recently confirmed that Season 5 would instead merge with WWE. The shooter franchise is keeping the player pool engaged, but Black Ops 6 is making some bold changes.

During the Official Call of Duty podcast, COD Pod’s, debut episode on YouTube, Associate Director of Design at Treyarch, Matt Scronce, joined hosts Miles Ross and Stephanie Snowden to chat about Black Ops 6’s omnimovement development process, multiplayer game mechanics, and Beta details, and managed to drop a bombshell about score streaks in the process.

When discussing what past mechanics the team wanted to incorporate in the upcoming franchise entry while accounting for player feedback, Scronce confirmed Black Ops 6 would be returning to a traditional score streak system where a player’s score will reset upon death.

The director also stated that, as of right now, score streaks do not loop, and Treyarch’s goal with this change was to “reward players in single life fairly with high-end rewards or low-end” and “avoid score streak spam”, which is something Scronce personally doesn’t like and acknowledges other players frown upon it as well.

Scronce concluded the reveal by saying “We’ll take all the feedback and go from there” during the game’s Beta testing, which is scheduled to go live in Early Access between August 30–September 4, followed by Open Beta from September 6–September 9.

The COD community was torn about this change, as expected, since a player’s score did not reset on death back in Cold War. One player hoped the score streak system would be changed throughout the year and another thought Treyarch had no business nerfing players who earned their streaks. On the other hand, a separate player understood others’ frustration but said they would be more upset if they couldn’t call in streaks because others were spamming.
