Former Rockstar Games Dev Comments on Grand Theft Auto 6

Ex-Rockstar Games dev Obbe Vermeij has revealed his thoughts on Grand Theft Auto 6, stating how it may not be too different from its predecessor. Grand Theft Auto 6 is currently in development for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S, with a 2025 launch in sight.

The highly successful GTA franchise is set to receive its first mainline game in over a decade as GTA 6 rolls out next year. In December 2023, publisher Rockstar Games unveiled GTA 6's debut trailer, which raced to over 200 million views on YouTube. Since then, information about the open-world game has been rather scarce, fueling anticipation among fans. Recently, Vermeij, a former Rockstar North employee who worked on multiple GTA titles like GTA: San Andreas and GTA 4, talked about the next entry in the crime saga.

In an interview with SanInPlay, Obbe Vermeij said that he doesn't think GTA 6 will be "wildly different" compared to GTA 5, suggesting that some fans may want to temper their expectations. He based this claim on the relatively small upgrade in hardware power that has taken place since the previous console generation. The Rockstar Games alumnus underlined how the transition from PS1 to PS2 was "enormous" while the transition from PS4 to PS5 was "not that big," stating that the devs don't have the "technology jump" needed to make things "different and better."

Despite not expecting a big change compared to the previous game, Vermeij admitted that Rockstar Games have "taken it even further" with GTA 6. He said that it will still be "the best game out there." Revealing what impressed him in the trailer, he said that the scene that "blows me away" is the one that shows a beach filled with a number of different characters, each doing something of their own. Further, the former GTA developer shared his approval of the series returning to Miami-inspired Vice City, saying that he loves the "Miami vibe." He added that he is looking forward to GTA 6 and will certainly play it.

With just a single official reveal so far, the GTA 6 trailer continues to be popular among fans eagerly waiting for the next update from Rockstar Games. Keeping in mind that the game is scheduled to arrive sometime in 2025, there are high chances that the next GTA 6 trailer may be revealed before the year ends. Whenever that happens, it seems safe to say that the forthcoming trailer will likely receive a similar response as the first one.

hope they take their time with it, and scrub out any problems before releasing it
