Rockstar Games appears to be working on a public mission creator for Grand Theft Auto Online, according to reliable leaker and insider TezFunz2. New in-game files were recently added to Grand Theft Auto Online that suggest the studio intends to release a new tool that will allow players to create their very own missions.

"Rockstar is seemingly working on a public version of the Mission Creator," Tez said on X (formerly Twitter). He went on to explain that the new script file was added with the recently released Bottom Dollar Bounties update, but the file itself is currently empty. The leaker then included a screenshot of the file, which is named 'public_mission_creator.ysc'.

The file being empty could mean one of two things. The first is that this tool is still in the early stages of development and thus won't be released for quite some time, or Rockstar simply doesn't want details on the mission creator to be leaked. Nevertheless, the mere notion that Rockstar would release a tool like this for GTA Online has got fans absolutely stoked.

"Oh, this is awesome," one user said in response, while another said, "this is [going to] extend the life of GTA Online if it's true."

Other users, such as Ben, noted that the addition of a public mission creator "makes a lot of sense" as the live service game is now winding down due to the upcoming release of Grand Theft Auto 6. While there's no confirmation from Rockstar on exactly what the studio intends to do with Grand Theft Auto Online once GTA 6 is released, it seems unlikely that it will continue to receive new content updates.

However, allowing users who have invested years of grinding into the game to create their own missions and continue playing seems like the right call. Titles such as Team Fortress 2, which is now 17 years old, still has a healthy community thanks to Valve continuously updating the game with community made content, such as new maps.

There's no way to know if this is what Rockstar intends to do with GTA Online though, as the public mission creator might not necessarily be released just because it has been discovered in the game files. But it seems highly likely that we will soon be able to create our very own missions within GTA Online.
