No Man's Sky Player Finds Reddit Planet

3.8
Planets in No Man's Sky are auto-named and one lucky player has discovered a planet named Reddit while exploring a new system. Planets can have their names changed after being found. The first scan, however, does show what name the planet was randomly labeled by No Man's Sky.

Planets are procedurally generated in No Man's Sky and can be explored by those that find them when jumping to different systems or warping to the location using a set of coordinates. Exploring these landmasses is one of the main focuses of the title. There are hundreds of planets to find in a variety of systems, all with different names and designations.

Redditor Negativ_Monarch posted a screenshot with a scan of Reddit, a newly discovered planet, found while exploring in No Man's Sky. The thread states they didn't change the name, but found it already named after the popular website. It's completely unmapped, with no progress or discoveries made. This means another player hadn't found and renamed the planet Reddit then uploaded, but rather, it was auto-assigned by the game.

I swear to god i did not rename this planet, i found the reddit planet

Planet Reddit is one of No Man's Sky's airless planets with the resources Rusted Metal, Copper, and Salt. Thread commenters noted Salt makes it similar to the Reddit website, along with the presence of Aggressive Sentinels. Others noted the airless environment is similar to different subreddits, with only bots posting on threads and keeping the subreddit going. One player said the planet would've been more aptly designed if it had a Toxic environment to better reflect some of the site's harsher posters. All comments were made in jest, with a lighthearted air to the thread.

New planets were recently added to No Man's Sky in the Worlds Part 1 update. Finding a pop culture nod among these new planets is a fun feat, even if it was random. Whether other planets could end up named after websites is unknown. Hello Games confirming what data is fed into No Man's Sky that it uses to pull names from would shed light on the possibility.

The upcoming No Man's Sky Worlds Part 2 update is expected to further change how players can interact with planets. No details have been revealed, but it's being theorized that a new type of star system could be added to the game. Depending on what new features are included, more pop culture nods could appear in-game.
