Destiny 2 Reportedly Changing Model, Down To Two Seasons Per Year

4.3
It's been a terrible 48 hours for Bungie. After layoffs late last year, the company announced it was firing a further 220 staff members, including Destiny 2: The Final Shape'snarrative lead, Kwan Perng. All while CEO Pete Parsons, who spent $2.4 million on cars over the last two years, kept his job with no repercussions.

This sent shockwaves through the community and has seemingly had a knock-on effect for the company. It was widely reported yesterday that Project Payback, the supposed codename for the next Destiny game, had been "indefinitely shelved", and now, a new leak suggests that more changes are coming to Destiny 2.

This new report comes from Liz, a notable Destiny leaker who has been sharing information on the game for years.

This marks a big departure from what fans have come to expect from Bungie's 2017 title.

Up until this point, the game has averaged roughly 3.5 seasons per year, with them traditionally coming once a quarter. This new change suggests that the speed at which seasons will be released will be almost halved, which is to be expected with a significantly decreased headcount.

The changes will also affect Destiny 2's core loop. The game looks set to receive less new content outside of seasons, too, something fans have already been vocally disappointed about.

As of now, take this all with a pinch of salt as Bungie has yet to confirm anything, but if it is true, it represents a seismic shift for the popular shooter.
