Now, it looks like Hello Games founder Sean Murray is teasing at least three more major expansions. This comes from Murray's Twitter account - where he makes all of his update teases - as the developer celebrates all of the expansions that have been added to the game so far.
The wording of the tweet itself is about what you'd expect, celebrating the eighth anniversary of No Man's Sky. There's good reason to celebrate too. In those years, Hello Games has released far more free updates and expansions than any of us were expecting at launch, turning No Man's Sky into an example of how to recover from negative reviews on release day.
However, as many quickly spotted in the replies, the graphic has been designed in a way that leaves three blank spaces, presumably for three more expansions. That would make sense, since Hello Games hasn't announced that it's stepping away from No Man's Sky, but it does have Light No Fire to work on too. At some point, the studio will have to leave the older game behind.
There's still some time before that though. Right now, you can play all of the expansions that have dropped so far for free, including the latest one, Worlds Part 1. This expansion acts as an overhaul, using advancements made during Light No Fire's development to improve the now eight-year-old game, with a particular focus on visual improvements and adding more variety.
Eight years ago today No Man’s Sky launched and we welcomed the first folks into our universe 🤯
