What started as a small Easter egg packaged at the end of World at War's campaign has slowly transformed into one of the leading franchises in the zombie genre, with Call of Duty Zombies set to expand once again in this year's Black Ops 6. Launching off of the tweaks and systems present in Cold War and Modern Warfare 3, Zombies in Black Ops 6 will feel familiar to longtime players, though Treyarch has a lot in store that will seemingly set the newest installment apart. Alongside the return of classic perks, Black Ops 6 will also mark the return to round-based maps. In addition to the return of classic features, Treyarch aims to make Black Ops 6 Zombies the most immersive yet, adding new cutscenes at the end of matches that show what happens once zombies take over.
Players finally got their first taste of Terminus, one of two launch maps for Black Ops 6 Zombies, with Treyarch sharing a plethora of details regarding the mode. One of the most curious and surprising changes was the addition of a new "game over outro," which will play once players' matches come to an end. When players "die out" during their match, a small cutscene will trigger, showing off their operator being overtaken by zombies. This change was shared in a YouTube video by longtime Call of Duty Zombies content creator MrDalekJD, which prompted a discussion within the game's community on Reddit.

"Should be like a Kill Cam where it shows the zombie running up to you and show the final hit it does," said Joemama0104. ZelaumTheHunter worried about what this change means for the iconic aerial view of the map that played during "game over" screens for older maps, "But what I hope that the map also has is an outro with game over song showing the map..it was such an iconic thing for the map." Soggy_Photo_7212 joked about the idea of a zombie dancing at the end, saying, "I swear to god if I get emoted on by a zombie." Not much is known about this new feature, but it will certainly change the overall feel of a Zombies match. Melee Macchiato, a new Zombies perk for Black Ops 6, will also change the feel of a match, buffing players' melee attacks.
Black Ops 6 releases on October 25, 2024, and aims to set the bar high, not just for Zombies fans but for the Call of Duty brand itself, offering robust new multiplayer and campaign modes as well. Black Ops 6 will be available to Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscribers, making it the first Call of Duty title to be available on day one of the service. Set shortly after the events of 2020's Cold War, Black Ops 6 will act as a continuation of Treyarch's iconic Black Ops franchise.
