"Why can't we have more than 12 ships?" one Reddit user posted, garnering over 1,500 upvotes at the time of writing. "I love this game and I love all the ships you can find and now build, but it's so hard to decide on which ships to keep".
Many in the comments were quick to agree, arguing that with more expeditions, the limit needs to be increased; "With every new update, I keep hoping we will get more ship slots. They keep offering unique ships as rewards but don't allow us any more slots. Please Sean [Murray], may we have some more".
Right now, you can have 12 starships in your fleet, but only six in your freighter hangar. There are a few suggestions on how No Man's Sky could increase this limit while still keeping the game optimised—one such suggestion is that players could store ships on the freighter with a summon cap to limit how many you can retreive at once.
Another idea is to overhaul inventory slots to be "player based rather than ship specific". As one fan commented, "It would benefit the game greatly to have inventory (with proper sorting) stored in a lore friendly personal singularity. There would still need to be a ship limit due to tech slots taking a significant amount of coding space, but they'd be able to increase it."
A really cool suggestion from another commenter is adding an option to decommission old ships so that you can place them in your bases, essentially turning parts of your fleet into decoration. Whatever the case, it's clear that even 12 starships, double what it used to be, isn't enough with the sheer number of unique rewards on offer these days.
Why can‘t we have more than 12 ships? :(
