A new mod for Fallout 4 has finally added ladders, a highly-requested feature by players of the game. While it may seem as though this is quite a small Fallout 4 mod, it adds a new layer of verticality to the wasteland in Bethesda’s iconic RPG.

Although the game is almost nine years old now, Fallout 4’s modding scene is better than ever. Talented modders continue to create awesome content for the game, with the recent release of Fallout: London setting a new standard when it comes to large mods in particular. It is impressive how modders continue to push the boundaries for what is possible in the game, and there’s certainly no sign of this ending any time soon, especially as the wait for a brand-new mainline Fallout game looks to extend a few more years yet.

The mod is titled “Climb the Commonwealth,” and can be found on Nexus Mods from user BadgerBomb2077. Its functionality is simple - it adds the climbable ladders seen in Fallout: London to the base game of Fallout 4, which is a feature many have been asking for from Bethesda for years. It’s a great quality-of-life mod for Fallout 4, which should massively improve immersion in the Commonwealth. Small mods like this can really add up in a load order to create a really unique experience.

As of right now, “Climb the Commonwealth” isn’t fully complete despite being available on Nexus Mods. It currently only includes the area around Vault 111 and Concord, although BadgerBomb2077 will be updating the mod whenever new areas are complete, with the entire Commonwealth currently in the works. They have confirmed that they won’t be adding their ladders to Fallout 4’s settlements, as other mods already have this functionality. Crucially, this mod doesn’t break precombines, which is one of the biggest conflict problems when it comes to Fallout 4 environment mods.

The modding community has played a big role in keeping Fallout 4 alive over the last few years. While it's known now that Bethesda wants to release games at a quicker rate, a new mainline Fallout game is nowhere to be seen, and the ongoing development of The Elder Scrolls 6 makes it unlikely to arrive any time soon. It remains to be seen if Bethesda decides to hand off the IP to another studio in the meantime, although until anything is confirmed, this is pure speculation.
