Alien: Isolation Player Count Spikes a Decade After Launch

3.5
The player count for Alien: Isolation is spiking a decade after the game's original release date. The increased interest in the survival horror game Alien: Isolation might be due to the latest addition to the Alien franchise, the movie Alien: Romulus.

Alien is an ongoing horror sci-fi franchise, beloved for several decades. The series outlines battles between humanity and extraterrestrial life, with a majority of them featuring the iconic main character Ellen Ripley. Alien: Isolation, a survival horror game released in 2014, puts players in the shoes of Amanda Ripley, Ellen Ripley's daughter, as she investigates the disappearances on the space station Sevastopol. Ultimately, Amanda must find a way to escape the station while avoiding an alien creature that is aboard the ship. Alien: Isolation is known for its survival and stealth elements, as players are required to outsmart, avoid, and fight the enemies they encounter.

Despite the futuristic survival horror game Alien: Isolation being a decade old now, the title has seen a large player count spike over the past month. According to Steam Charts, the game is seeing its largest jump in players since 2020, with an increase in engagement of 44% over the past 30 days, boasting 1,790 players on August 18. While this might not seem like a huge number of people, it marks a significant change compared to the game's player count before August, which averaged around 250 to 350 players since the last spike in 2020.

This increased interest in Alien: Isolation may be due to the recently released Alien: Romulus. The newest addition to the Alien franchise, Alien: Romulus has been a hit among fans, hauling in major box office earnings and receiving praise from critics and audiences alike. The buzz around the movie seems to be spilling into other aspects of the Alien franchise, possibly leading to the increase in player count for Alien: Isolation.

Alongside the release of Alien: Romulus and its connections to Alien: Isolation, the reduced price of the game may be another factor adding to the boost in players, as Isolation has been on sale for 80% off on Xbox, PlayStation, and PC. As the Alien franchise is seeing a resurgence among old and new fans, it is no surprise that Alien: Isolation is feeling the effects as well.
