PS5 Pro Reportedly Still Releasing In 2024

4.3
The long-rumored PlayStation 5 Pro has reached Half-Life 3 levels of discourse, as eager gamers and analysts attempt to find out if Sony's mid-generation console refresh is an actual thing. Monday's latest batch of rumors have certainly added to that cause, and it may not be long before we finally find out just what the heck a PS5 Pro even looks like. More importantly, how much it'll cost, too.

As part of his Game Mess Mornings podcast, reliable Giant Bomb insider Jeff Grubb spilled some new details on the rumored hardware upgrade. Perhaps the most noteworthy bit is that the console is real and will seemingly still release in 2024.

"Last I heard, (the PS5 Pro) is still coming out this year," Grubb said.

As far as the reveal is concerned, Grubb said that there "probably" would be a PlayStation State of Play, not a PlayStation Showcase, by the end of September. "I don't know if the PlayStation 5 Pro is in this State of Play, but where else would it be," Grubb conjectured.

Still, it's important to remember that Sony will be making its return to Tokyo Game Show in late September after a five-year absence. The tech giant will have several demo units available, as well as host a Death Stranding 2 talk. There is certainly a lane where the Pro could get revealed there, or, further details could be shared after an initial reveal at a State of Play.

Be Prepared To Shell Out Some Serious Dough
When discussing the potential price of the Pro model, Grubb said the following:

"I'm sticking to $600 for it."

That said, the insider did bring up two interesting ideas. The first of which is Sony potentially following Microsoft by matching the upcoming 2TB Series X price. That hardware refresh will run gamers $599.99, something many were not happy with due to its lack of tangible upgrades.

On the other end, Grubb propositioned Sony pricing the console based on the idea of "What could we get away with?" In other words, what's the max someone would be willing to spend on an enhanced console. "The person that is likely to buy this thing, I think does spend $700 on it," Grubb said.

Either way, it looks like the console is likely to be at minimum $600, and could extend far beyond that. With August coming to a close and September rapidly approaching, it seems like it won't be long before official info is in the wild.
