If you're unaware, Remedy is one of the few big developers out there that has remained independent despite its pedigree, having worked with the likes of Xbox and Epic to have their games published. In an announcement on Remedy's official website, the studio has claimed its new partnership with Annapurna has been made so that it can make Control 2 "exactly the game we want it to be."
Annapurna will also undoubtedly benefit from the partnership too, given how massive Remedy is in the industry. While the publisher has a lot of well received games under its belt - such as Neon White, Stray, Outer Wilds, Sayonara Wild Hearts, and many more - Control 2 will undoubtedly be the biggest game it's ever published in terms of prestige, so it seems as though both parties will be benefiting pretty well from the arrangement.
On top of that, this agreement will also see Remedy and Annapurna work together to bring the developer's wide range of games to other mediums. In an announcement on the official Remedy Twitter account, it's explained that the studio will also work with Annapurna to help expand "the Control and Alan Wake franchises into film and TV," though no current projects have been announced just yet.
With how much that Remedy loves to splice live-action elements into its games, most notably seen in the 'We Sing' level in Alan Wake 2, it's no surprise that the studio wants to branch out into TV and films. In fact, an Alan Wake TV show was announced back in 2022 in collaboration with AMC, though we've had no updates since then.
In any case, it's nice to see that Remedy still has pretty ambitious plans for Alan Wake and Control, despite the former's relatively low sales. We'll have to wait and see what Control 2 will actually look like, but it's good to hear that we know it will be the game that Remedy wants to make thanks to this new agreement.
We are partnering with Annapurna to co-finance Control 2. We hope you're as excited about what this means for our creative output and ongoing independence as we are.
