Dragon’s Dogma 2 Director Hideaki Itsuno is Leaving Capcom

3.5
Capcom’s Hideaki Itsuno, renowned for directing Devil May Cry and Dragon’s Dogma, will leave Capcom by the end of August. In a new tweet, Itsuno thanks fans for their “long-term support of the games and characters I have been responsible for” and hopes “you will continue to support Capcom’s games and characters.”

What’s next for him? In September, Itsuno will begin “developing a new game in a new environment. I hope to create fun, beautiful games that are as memorable as, or even more memorable than, the ones I have created so far.” He asked fans to “stay tuned for my next creation!”

Itsuno didn’t specify his exact reason for leaving Capcom, where he’s spent over 30 years of his career. Originally brought on for the arcade division and eventually went on to co-direct Star Gladiator and Rival Schools: United by Fate. His most famous work is on the Devil May Cry and Dragon’s Dogma franchises.

Devil May Cry 5 has sold 8.4 million units in its lifetime, while Dragon’s Dogma 2 arrived earlier this year and has sold three million units.
