Sledgehammer Games not developing Call of Duty: Ghosts

4.4
The California-based studio, Sledgehammer Games, will no longer be working with Infinity Ward to produce the Call of Duty franchise, according to a recent Tweet by the company. Although the Activision team, which was founded in 2009 by a few of the creators of the Dead Space franchise, did much of the heavy lifting on Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, Sledgehammer will no longer bear the burden of co-developing the largest entertainment franchise out there.

This news comes from Twitter, where at this point, most of the hot scoops originate. Not long after the first teaser trailer for the next-generation Call of Duty: Ghosts was unveiled to the public, Sledgehammer went out of its way to both congratulate Infinity Ward and make known that its own team had no involvement this time around.

"Congrats to @InfinityWard on #CODGhosts!" tweeted the studio. "Our team is heads down on our next project, but best wishes to the hardworking team at IW!"

What does that mean for Sledgehammer? Previously, the company was rumored to be working on the first third-person Call of Duty title, but its move to work on Modern Warfare 3 cancelled that project. It’s unknown whether or not they will be developing a second CoD title alongside Ghosts, or a new IP altogether.

Instead of looking forward to unannounced games, though, let’s get excited for the world premiere of Call of Duty: Ghosts, which will take place during the May 21, 2013 Xbox briefing. The game itself is expected to be out in November.

Chi I never really though they did much to
anything in Call of Duty anyway.

They did more then most people think. They were the kid in a group project that does all the work but the whole group gets all the credit.

OBAY well that good lol mw3 was not the great at all thou

MW3 I think was a great game. Better than BO1 and BO2

Some things are a lot better in MW3, but there are some things that could be approved.

yer but look at the state of BO2 its a broken game all the way through Zombies/campaign/multiplayer it all very rarely works smoothly if anything they should end cod noe will its barely on a high and make something diffrent for a change something new to look forward to not another copy and paste game. jesus activision is milking cod to death

I didn't think anything was "broken" with the game. The guns are pretty even excluding a few of them. The zombies is fun, but more challenging. The campaign was just fun overall, and I didn't have any complaints about it.

Mortar I think this was inevitable after what came of MW3. Hopefully Call of Duty: Ghosts is a big step up from MW3 to show what Infinity Ward can do when they're not being held back by Sledgehammer.

They weren't really held back by Sledgehammer, they were greatly assisted by them, Infinity Ward was still the main game designer.

I agree with you there bro.

RZA Infinity Ward needs them though. This sucks.

Infinity Ward needs them?

... No they don't. Modern Warfare 3 was one of the worst and most boring games I've played since I've had my Xbox. I don't know how much of that was down to Sledgehammer, but all I know is, Call of Duty 4 and Modern Warfare 2 were both great games and they weren't co-developed with Sledgehammer.

infinity ward doesn't need sledgehammer, infinity ward needs their old employees back including west and zampala (the 2 that started the cod series)but that will never happen.since they left cod has been declining.-_- still though i liked mw3, not as much as mw1 or 2 but more than well every other cod. cod2 big red one will forever be my favorite campaign.
