Rumor: A Lot More Final Fantasy Games Could Be Jumping Ship to Xbox

0
It seems that Final Fantasy games like the Pixel Remaster series, Final Fantasy 16, and the Final Fantasy 7 remakes are locked in for an Xbox release. Square Enix's Final Fantasy franchise has primarily been associated with Sony since the PS1. Many mainline Final Fantasy games have been timed exclusives on PlayStation consoles. One of the most recent examples is Final Fantasy 16, a PS5 console exclusive that will get a PC port later this September.

Recently, there have been efforts by Square Enix to bring the Final Fantasy games to Xbox. Final Fantasy 14 launched its Xbox Series X/S version earlier this March, and rumors suggest that Microsoft is in talks to bring the Final Fantasy 7 remake over as well. The director of Final Fantasy 16, Naoki Yoshida, also commented on the potential of bringing more Final Fantasy entries to Xbox, based on the success that FF14 had on Xbox Series X/S. Now Jez Corden has commented on the strong possibility of Square Enix's current slate of Final Fantasy games coming to Xbox.

On the latest episode of the Xbox Two podcast, Corden says he heard that the "whole slate" of Final Fantasy would be coming to Xbox. This "slate" is the Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster series, which are remasters of the first six numbered games in the franchise, Final Fantasy 16, and Final Fantasy 7 Remake. Corden noted that he doesn't know when FF7R will be coming to Xbox, saying it likely wouldn't be a part of the "first wave" of games coming to the system. Corden also detailed his personal expectations, saying that he believes that the Pixel Remasters will be first along with FF16.

Corden believes Final Fantasy 16 would be a higher priority over the Final Fantasy 7 Remake because of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth. Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth had its own exclusivity window that has passed, Corden believes that Rebirth still has some exclusivity tied around it since it is more recent. There's also the possibility that, since the remakes are a part of a trilogy, Square is waiting until all three games are released before bringing them to Xbox.

As for when these games could be released, Corden didn't say, though he believes something related could show up at Tokyo Game Show. Microsoft confirmed it will be present at TGS 2024, with a livestream broadcast taking place on September 26. Fans will need to wait and see if anything comes out of this for now.
