The interview was conducted over six months after the release of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth. Set immediately after Avalanche escaped Midgar, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth covered the remaining section of the original game's first disc, from Kalm to the Forgotten Capital. Although Aerith's fate remains a point of debate with Final Fantasy players, the upcoming third part will likely feature other regions from discs two and three of the PlayStation classic, such as Wutai, Rocket Town, and the Northern Crater. While Final Fantasy 7 Remake and Rebirth were made in Unreal Engine 4, Square Enix acknowledged that it could jump to Unreal Engine 5 if it suited its needs.
With the third chapter of the Final Fantasy 7 Remake saga in development, one of the game's leads took time to answer some lingering questions. In an interview with Anime News Network, Kitase said that fans who fear too many deviations from the original Final Fantasy 7 would be made in the upcoming third chapter should not worry. Kitase said that the development team kept the original game's story in mind throughout the new saga, and reiterated that Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3 would not betray fans of the 1997 classic. Kitase also acknowledged that 27 years had passed between the original Final Fantasy 7 and the release of Rebirth, and hoped longtime fans would be satisfied with the trilogy's upcoming finale.

Though the development team previously acknowledged that Tifa would have a prominent role in Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3, Kitase could not comment on what would change between the new chapter and the original Final Fantasy 7. However, Kitase said that the development team had seen various fan theories about what could happen in the upcoming title, following the events of the Forgotten Capital.
Kitase said that the end of Final Fantasy 7's first disc, and the feelings that Cloud and the players felt, were kept in mind with Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth. While Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3 will have new locations and quests for players to experience, it remains to be seen which ones will be kept intact from the original game.
