Mortal Kombat 1 Fans Should Keep an Eye on October 2025

Mortal Kombat 1 has brought a soft reboot of the franchise to life, as Liu Kang's timeline reset offers a fresh story in the franchise. Despite being a soft reboot, the new timeline of Mortal Kombat 1 has brought some big changes to the series. As the franchise continues to grow, other adaptations have found ways to experiment with the fighting series' formula, as well.

Not only have the Mortal Kombat games received a fresh start, but Warner Bros. has kickstarted a new live action movie universe. Adapting Mortal Kombat to the big screen hasn't been an easy task for Hollywood. Sometimes video games don't translate as well into live action, but Warner Bros. is trying to finally create a successful Mortal Kombat film franchise. Although the first movie in 2021 was met with mixed reviews, a sequel is on the way. The second Mortal Kombat movie is scheduled to release on October 24, 2025, and this could potentially be a good time for Mortal Kombat 1 players.

Even though October 2025 is an entire year away, Mortal Kombat 1 players will likely want to keep their eyes open for the month. Of course, the prospect of a new Mortal Kombat movie could be exciting, but there may be in-game surprises on the horizon. From special events to ring in the movie's release to possible new skins, it would be surprising if Mortal Kombat 1 wasn't used as a way to help market the film.

Just a few months ago, Mortal Kombat 1 teased movie-inspired skins that call back to the cult classic 1995 adaptation. If the game can tease skins based on past live action versions, then it makes complete sense for Mortal Kombat 1 to bring fresh modern skins into the fold as well. Although Mortal Kombat 1's traditional skin system can be controversial, it is still a way to offer more diverse character appearances to players. However, one of the biggest questions is what potential in-game events could look like.

Once Fall 2025 hits, there could be an influx of Mortal Kombat movie marketing seeping its way into Mortal Kombat 1. From special sneak peeks to limited-time events that could offer rare skins, the possibilities are exciting to ponder. Not only that, but by the time next October rolls around, Mortal Kombat 1 will be two-years-old at that point. The game's September 19 anniversary will likely have its own set of celebrations, like potential new Mortal Kombat 1 DLC characters. This, combined with the October 24 movie release, could bring back-to-back special events to players.

Based on past comments from Ed Boon, the next Mortal Kombat game may be a long time away. Boon has stated that he is hoping for more ongoing content in Mortal Kombat 1, so the game can ultimately have some longevity. If Boon and Warner Bros. plan on stretching out Mortal Kombat 1 for as long as possible, then players may get an announcement for future plans around next October. Between the game's second anniversary and impending movie release, it would be the perfect time to reveal Mortal Kombat 1's year three roadmap.

As Mortal Kombat 1 continues to grow, it will be fascinating to see what stage the game is at around this time next year. It would be a truly missed opportunity if Mortal Kombat 1 didn't help market its fellow movie adaptation. It may be a while until more news about the next Mortal Kombat movie is revealed, but special features in Mortal Kombat 1 are almost guaranteed.
