Star Wars: Knights Of The Old Republic Remake Isn't Dead After All

3.8
The remake of the legendary RPG Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic (KOTOR) has had a turbulent development cycle since its announcement in 2021. However, a recent Saber Interactive investment report lists the KOTOR remake as still being in active development.

The KOTOR remake was originally in the hands of Aspyr Media before development was moved to Saber Interactive by both studios' parent company Embracer Group in 2022. Saber Interactive split from Embracer this year, taking the KOTOR remake with it.

Though we haven't seen any substantial update on the game since its initial teaser in 2021, the KOTOR remake is still in active development. Saber Interactive recently received investment from Aleph Capital Partners and Crestview Partners, two separate investment firms, to "accelerate the growth" of Saber and fully repay off the company's debts.

In the statement released by all three parties, Saber's active projects are mentioned. "...and an exciting slate of upcoming titles including Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, Jurassic Park: Survival, John Carpenter's Toxic Commando, A Quiet Place: The Road Ahead, RoadCraft, Tempest Rising, and many others," the statement reads.

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic features prominently on the list, perhaps implying that the remake is a priority for Saber Interactive. No details regarding who is working on the remake have been made available; whether Saber is working on the game in-house or has shipped it to one of its subsidiaries isn't currently known.

All in all, the KOTOR Remake has been in development for six years with no end in sight. In April, Saber Interactive CEO Matthew Karch stated "It's clear and obvious we are working on [the remake]. It's been in the press numerous times. What I will say is that the game is alive and well, and we're dedicated to making sure we exceed consumer expectations."

Saber Interactive is currently enjoying the successful launch of Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2, the most-played Warhammer game ever on Steam.
