Rumor: Blu-Ray license issues could delay next Xbox until 2014?
MondoXbox.com claims, via unnamed sources, claims that the management of a large retail chain in Italy has been told that Microsoft has been having some issues with obtaining the license for a Blu-Ray disc player in the next Xbox, apparently due to a long time console exclusive contract with Sony, and this might make the next Xbox miss a launch by the end of 2013.
Of course, this is just a rumor and it's possible that any Blu-Ray license delay might just be for European markets, which might not affect the U.S. time frame for the launch of the console. It's not unknown for a console to be launched in North America first. The original Xbox came out in the U.S. and Canada in November 2001 but the European market had to wait until March 2002 to get their hands on the next Xbox.
Even the article itself states we should "take this rumor with extreme caution". We should learn more about Microsoft's launch plans for the next Xbox at its May 21st press event, which is now just over two weeks away.

TTGAcTiioNzZ i really cant wait until the new xbox is released it better not get delayed
I hope it doesn't get delayed but I don't think they will delay it. The holiday is too much of a money maker to let it be delayed until next year.

TopNotchKiNGslapshot101 I thought about the problems with including blu ray. I don't understand why Sony would allow Microsoft to get their hand on the blu ray technology.
Sony does not care as long as Microsoft pays for the rights and ect.. It's all about money in the tech/gaming industry.
A lot of company's own into blue ray Sony and 2 other big company's own into blue ray... Sony could say no but they don't have enough power to stop Microsoft from having blue ray... Sony owns into blue ray they don't own all of blue ray

STaRzZ_HDII Hahahaha lol it dosnt even need blue ray this is just gona me games cost more to buy
It doesn't need Blu Ray? Haha, like you know anything about the specs for games and there machines. On a console, the game and all it's data has to be stored to a disk. Currently the Xbox 360 disk can support up to 8GB of data, while the PS3 Blu Ray disk can support up to 50GB. Having a 50GB disk will vastly increase the size and detailing of video games for the console market. It will leave more room on the disk for graphical data which would then take a load off the GPU, CPU and the HDD. Most Xbox 360 games come in a 2-disk set because the game won't fit onto 1 disk, map sizes will be vastly increased, gameplay will be enhanced to a whole new level, and the actual engines used to develop the games will be improved (hint* hint* Call of Duty: Ghosts next-gen engine) Developers will be able to release better DLC with more detail and more becuase they don't have to worry about storing game data onto the HDD.
