New Metro Awakening Release Date Trailer At State Of Play

3.7
At the latest PlayStation State Of Play, we were given a release date trailer for the upcoming Metro Awakening VR title, which will be released on November 7th on PlayStation VR 2, Metaquest, and Steam VR.

We’ve already been introduced to the brilliant combination of Metro and Stalker’s post-apocalyptic Russian atmosphere with the immersive qualities of VR within other titles like Into The Radius, so it's great to see a new look at one of the most promising upcoming VR games.

Like previous Metro games, the latest look at Awakening is infused with slow-paced horror and exhilarating action, all encompassed in tunnels and metro stations underneath a nuclear winter engulfed Russia.

While Awakening is more of a spin-off game, separate from Artyom's story defined in the previous three games, its core campaign is still placed in the same setting. Instead, it examines the backstory of Kahn, who was present in the previous Metro games.

Metro is easily one of the most fitting series for a VR-exclusive title. The games already boast highly immersive elements like inventory management, separate face mask and watch controls, and immersive gun mechanics, all of which are perfect for VR.

The latest trailer also highlights the game’s use of psychological spectacles, such as exciting hallucination scenes reminiscent of earlier titles like Metro Last Light. Given how deeply some parts of Metro have delved into science fiction, we’re excited to see what else they have in store.

While a new VR title for the franchise may not be what many fans would have wanted, this trailer is a good sign that Awakening will be a fitting Metro experience. At the very least, developers have confirmed a separate mainline Metro title is on the way.

This is looking great! The Metro games have never let me down, and I'm hoping this one will be just as impressive.
