GreedFall 2 Devs Respond To Feedback After Rough Early Access Launch

4
GreedFall 2: The Dying World has been available to play in early access for almost a week. However, the long-awaited return of this RPG series hasn't gone smoothly, as the sequel opened to negative reviews on Steam.

It has since risen to mixed reviews, but that's still a less-than-ideal place for GreedFall 2 to be in as it tries to bring players in to support development. Now, developer Spiders has outlined what changes players can expect to see, responding to some fan feedback.

First of all, Spiders addresses a common complaint: the new combat system. This is a step away from the more action-orientated combat of the first game, and instead goes for tactical gameplay, encouraging players to pause and line up attacks. Some have taken issue with how this is implemented, but Spiders suggets that this isn't going anywhere.

"With the introduction of the new tactical pause system, your feedback is and will be crucial for us to ensure that the new system is fun for everyone," the community update reads. "With that being said, we are aware that some elements are still a work in progress and need improvement, and that some bugs can hinder your experience for the moment. We noted your feedback on that subject, and we aim to improve it in future updates throughout Early Access."

Spiders does plan to update the combat by improving auto attacks when going between enemies and making the process of selecting which enemy to attack feel smoother.

The update also explains that there will be bug fixes in the next patch, since this is also attracting a lot of complaints online. On top of this, we should notice improvements to companion AI so we don't have to micromanage everyone all the time.

Lastly, Spiders says that the character creator currently in GreedFall 2 is very much a work in progress. In the next patch, the studio promises new hairstyles and hair colours. Beyond that, we're told we can expect a face editor, so we don't have to rely on presets, and a transmog system.

It remains to be seen if these improvements are enough to win players over. The first GreedFall game managed to amass a following, so Spiders will be hoping that it can replicate this during GreedFall 2's early access period.

Of course, there are issues behind the scenes too. Many developers from Spiders have spoken out against their bosses, accusing them of mismanagement which has negatively affected GreedFall 2. In an open letter, it was even said that some devs felt "shame" towards their own work on the game.

GreedFall 2 is available now in early access, exclusively on PC.

If there's fireworks going off behind the scenes you can't expect to have the chemistry and positivity transfer to the game can you.
