Nintendo opened a Nintendo Switch playtest for a new feature, and sign-ups were completely filled within one minute. The mysterious new Nintendo Switch playtest has fans talking, and apparently many were more than eager to sign up for a chance to check it out.

As the Nintendo Switch has been out for seven years now, there's a lot of speculation regarding how much longer the current system will be supported and when its successor will launch. The Nintendo Switch 2 exists, and rumors continue to swirl about it, but so far Nintendo has made no attempt to reveal or showcase the new system. That's had some wondering if this new Nintendo Switch opportunity has something to do with the new system, or if it will play a role in the current Switch's future.

On October 9, Nintendo revealed that it would be holding a playtest and opening chances to apply the very next day. It seems players were more than ready to try out whatever the opportunity is, as the spots filled up within one minute. Nintendo subsequently announced that spaces were filled in the first-come, first-serve test. While gamers can be voracious when it comes to new games, consoles, and features, this was still an impressive response, as Nintendo planned to offer up to 10,000 spots in the test, shared across all participating regions.

Nintendo hasn't been forthcoming about what exactly it is that the company is testing. All that's known for sure is that participants need a Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pass subscription to participate. Those digging on the site have since found that players will also need to use a wired internet connection during the test, and the files will become available for download starting on October 21. Participants will need a whopping 2.2 GB of space on their internal storage to download it, and the test will begin on October 23. Fans are speculating that it may have something to do with cloud gaming.

Nintendo is having playtesters promise to maintain secrecy, so those involved are expected to remain tight-lipped. However, leaks have become extremely prevalent in gaming, and there's a fair chance that something will leak once the test begins. For now, Nintendo Switch enthusiasts will just have to remain patient while they wait for information regarding the purpose of the test and the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2.
