GreedFall 2 Devs Admit Combat Needs "Drastic Improvements"
This comes after GreedFall 2 launched in early access to negative reviews, with fans of the first game complaining about the new combat mechanics. While Spiders is adamant that it isn't going back to the old combat system, it's now pledging to make changes to the new mechanics, more specifically promising to improve the controls and make it more fast-paced.
This comes from a new blog post, detailing today's GreedFall 2 update, as well as what we can expect from future patches and hotfixes.
"While we do not intend to revert to the old system from [GreedFall], we know the current system needs drastic improvements to make it fun for everyone," the post reads. "The key elements the team is currently working on thanks to your feedback are: Faster pacing with more responsive actions and animations, better accessibility with improved onboarding and options, better controls to macro and micromanage your party, and more."
Changes like that are to be expected while the game is in early access. With that said, it is quite a dilemma for the devs, as players appear to largely reject something as integral to the game as its combat mechanics. This stems from the fact that Greedfall 2 moves away from the action RPG system of the first game, and instead adopts real-time with pause, a bit like Dragon Age: Origins.
Steam reviews are mixed right now, up from mostly negative at launch. It remains to be seen if Spiders can win back fans after this less-than-stellar launch, but there's an entire early access period to go still.
Right now, GreedFall 2 is available exclusively on PC. Console ports at planned when the game comes out of earlt access, which is set for some time in 2025.
