Announced by developer 2K earlier today, this arena mode shooter is called Gravity Ball, and will see teams of either three or five players compete against each other to rack up as many points as they can by firing a ball at numbered targets on the opposing team's wall. After four, two minute long quarters, the team with the most points is victorious.
As you can see, there's quite a bit to it, and you'll even be able to grab power ups for special abilities that will give you an edge in the match. It's an absolutely bizarre mode, though the reaction from fans probably isn't the one that 2K was hoping for. For example, in the tweet above that announced the mode, you can find fans saying that they "just want to play basketball", as well as some angry about the Fortnite-ification of the game.
Regardless of whether fans love the idea or hate it, Gravity Ball will be added to NBA 2K25 later this week. This mode will drop alongside Season 2 on October 18 for PS5, Xbox Series X, and PC users (crossplay is supported), and will cost you $7.99 to play. Yes, it isn't a free mode, which might be a little detrimental to the mode's player count, especially since people don't seem too keen on it, but we'll have to wait and see.
