Pokémon Trading Card Game Pocket launched on October 29, 2024, for iOS and Android, allowing Pokémon fans to enjoy the excitement of opening packs directly on their mobile devices.

Anyone can get started, with the game offering users the opportunity to open two packs for free each day. Pocket was co-developed by DeNA and The Pokémon Company. If you are looking to battle, expect streamlined rules and 20 card decks. It's also important to note that there is no trading at launch.

As a 33-year-old with a rekindled passion for collecting Pokémon cards (mostly collecting graded cards to pass down to family) two years ago, I'm thrilled to see the Pokémon TCG expanding to mobile platforms.

10 Million Downloads and Strong Revenue
The Pokémon Company announced on X that Pocket has been downloaded over 10 million times across the globe. That number is expected to climb over the coming weeks. In terms of geographical distribution, the USA is leading the charge with the other top countries being Japan, Brazil, Mexico and Indonesia.

According to Stephen Totilo over at gamefile.news, these downloads are driving significant revenue:

Pokémon TCG had 1.2 million downloads and made $1.9 million in revenue worldwide on launch day, Sensor Tower analyst Sam Aune told me (The Pokémon Company has not released official numbers).

That would make the game the third largest mobile release of all time in terms of revenue, Aune said, though cautioned the data is based on a preliminary estimate.

Sensor Tower estimates the game made $2.8 million in revenue on its second day.

Will Pocket crack the all time record?

According to Fandom, Pokémon TCG Pocket still has a very long way to go before joining the likes of top selling mobiles games such as Arena of Valor, Candy Crush Saga, PUBG mobile and more. Time will tell but given the popularity of TCG in general, there is a good chance for the title to be an all time classic.
