While there have been many Switch 2 leaks and rumors, the only confirmed information is that Nintendo will announce the system in the current fiscal year, which ends in March 2025.
Nintendo’s latest earnings report has been released, and it includes an update about the Switch 2, but it’s one fans won’t want to hear. According to Reuters, Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa confirmed that the Switch 2 is still on track for a fiscal year reveal, which concludes on March 31, 2025.

This is despite the fact that the Switch’s sales have gradually fallen, with Nintendo revising its forecast downward for the system.
The Switch’s sale decline is a mixture of anticipation for the next systemand a gradual decline in new titles. While 2024 saw the likes of Super Mario Party: Jamboree and Mario & Luigi: Brothership, it lacked triple-A titles.
That said, it’s not as if Nintendo is starving. The Switch is still selling units, even if they are fewer than originally anticipated.
Since its launch in 2017, the Nintendo Switch is close to becoming the best-selling console ever. It’s currently in third place, with 146.04 million, just behind the DS’s 154.02 million and the PS2’s 155+ million.
While it’s still possible that the Switch could take the top spot, the slowdown in sales suggests the console is at the end of its lifespan, especially as there are barely any games left coming to the system, and its successor is on the horizon.
If the Switch 2 is revealed in March 2025, it could mean that fans are waiting until the summer or even the holiday season for the next system. If Switch hopes to dethrone PS2, an end-of-life price reduction may be needed to beat the PS2.
