There will be no FIFA 14 on Wii U because of the "disappointing" sales of FIFA 13 on the console, EA has said.

"Six months ago FIFA 13 was a launch title on Wii U," an EA spokesperson said in a statement to Eurogamer.
"Although the game featured FIFA's award-winning HD gameplay and innovative new ways to play, the commercial results were disappointing. We have decided not to develop FIFA 14 on Wii U," they confirmed.

Just yesterday, the publishing giant confirmed that it has "no games in development for the Wii U", delivering a devastating blow to Nintendo's Wii U campaign.

While EA hasn't ruled out the possibility of future Wii U development, its complete lack of support for Nintendo's console is a worrying development for a machine that has struggled to gain momentum at retail, despite the best efforts of the retailers themselves.

With Wii U versions of Mass Effect 3, Need for Speed Most Wanted, FIFA 12 and Madden NFL 13 all ready for its launch window, EA was one of the most prominent supporters of Nintendo's HD console in its early months of availability.

But the publishing giant's Wii U support has taken a downward turn in recent months, having surprisingly dismissed Wii U for its next Madden game, and later declaring no Wii U support for Frostbite 3, on the basis that tests on the console yielded "not too promising results".

In relation to the lack of the new Madden for Wii U, EA insisted that "we have a strong partnership with Nintendo and will continue to evaluate opportunities for delivering additional Madden NFL products for Nintendo fans in the future."
